Who Can Volunteer?

Watch DOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at Vinland Elementary School.

Daily Activities

Watch DOGS perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day engaging with their students as well as others.

  • Read with students
  • Work on flashcards
  • Play at recess
  • Eat lunch
  • Patrol the school entrances and hallways
  • Greet students and families in the morning
  • Say goodbye to students and families at the end of the day
  • Assist with traffic flow
  • Any other assigned activities

On the day of their participation, Watch DOG volunteers are given a brief review of their involvement. They wear an official Watch DOG vest or tee shirt with a disposable ‘dog tag’ identifying them as a Vinland Elementary Watch DOG.
